As a busy athlete with a full time job I know that a good homemade meal is not always possible. Eating healthy and making your meals form scratch takes time. From personal experience I know on somedays the time just isn't there. This is when you typically grab a protein bar or run to your nearest fast-casual restaurant. Not that there is anything bad with such meal replacements occasionally but they do tend to drain your wallet and sneak in extra calories if your not careful. What I have found most useful to remedy these situations is using a crock-pot. I have never understood the allure of a crock-pot until I finally used it. What an amazing piece of equipment! What I personally love about this method of cooking is that you can toss everything in and let it cook while you continue on with your day. Depending on the size of your crock-pot you can pre-make a week to several weeks worth of food. All you need to do is portion it out and freeze it. This way you will have quick microwaveable meals that are healthy, nutritious and always ready for you. Not only is the time saving great but it will save you money too! Many of the ingredients you use can be bought as frozen or canned at pennies to the dollar. What I normally like to do is double up on my veggies such as tomatoes or bell-peppers and cut back on the meat. This way you save more money and get more nutrients, minerals, antioxidants, etc. Best of all the internet is flooded with crock pot recipes so you can easily find something you like. If you don't own a crock-pot you can get one really anywhere for only $20 or less. So if your a busy athlete I highly recommend trying out some crock-pot meals. They will save you time, money and let you eat healthy no matter how busy your day is!
